How it Works: Each capsule of this product contains Diltiazem hydrochloride, a drug that causes relaxation of blood vessels and, therefore, that the heart does not seem as required. It is a substance that forms part of the group of medicines called blockers, calcium channel blockers. Their action also includes the increase of oxygen reaching the heart. Cardizem (Diltiazem) is a cardioprotective agent, an antihypertensive and potent coronary vasodilator.
Therapeutic indications: Cardizem is indicated for the treatment of angina resulting from coronary artery spasm.
It is also indicated for the management of chronic stable angina (mainly stress) without evidence of vasospasm in patients who continue with symptoms despite adequate doses of beta-blockers and / or organic nitrates or who cannot tolerate these agents.
Cardizem can be useful in unstable angina when spasm of the coronary vessels is definitely a contributing factor (eg, ST segment elevation).
Its vasodilator effect is used to treat mild to moderate hypertension.
It has also shown utility in the treatment of atherosclerosis and hypertension associated due to its minimal effect on lipid metabolism.
